Youngest Birdhouse Monitors
It’s never too early to introduce young boys to conservation. The Chattanooga Bluebird Society invited a group of boys in a summer program to monitor one of our larger trails. The boys took to it immediately, excitedly running to the next box, checking to see its previous status before opening the birdhouse and then entering their findings on NestWatch. As we walked the trail, we talked about why we set up trails, what our results have been and interesting facts about our birds. When one of the boys asked why we focused on bluebirds, our first answers had to do with their place in nature. We loved that one of the boys quietly said, “Because they’re beautiful!”
