Volunteer Opportunities

Find out all of the ways you can get involved with the Chattanooga Bluebird Society! Are you good at spreadsheets, a whiz at social media, love to talk to kids and/or adults? There are lots of ways for you to help!

Become a Trail Monitor

This is a fascinating opportunity to witness bird behavior up close. Monitors must be members and are assigned to a team which monitors a specific trail. The team determines the schedule but typically, each member monitors once or twice a week during their assigned month. Monitors carefully open the nest box, observe the contents (nest, eggs, hatchlings, etc.) and record results in  the NestWatch app on their smartphone. You’ll be a citizen scientist!!

Help Build Birdhouses

Members get together several times per year to build birdhouses for the trails and to sell to the public. The cedar is cut and drilled in advance, so when the group gets together, they can assemble the houses, predator guards and completed systems in a few hours. The group is then invited to share lunch and get to know one another. No experience needed although you will probably gain new skills while you build with us!

Next Birdhouse Build:

Help with Special Events

We need volunteers to man the Bluebird booth at 3 festivals in September. We’ll be talking all things bluebirds with festival attendees, and selling birdhouses and memberships. It’s lots of fun and there will be a board member available during  each shift. Sign up today!
